(Ashley and I wandered down roads of amazing houses when we got lost. We're not allowed to read maps anymore. We went in the opposite direction of the botanical gardens. So we wandered around. And then she thought it would be a good idea to cut through a cemetery. There were graves being dug, funerals going on, I even saw a clear to hearse. And the exits were very sparse. We were in that graveyard forever! But eventually we figured out how to get out and made it to the gardens.)
but I spent a really nice day in the botanical gardens.
Ok, it rained. So it wasn't the nicEST day, but I'll take what I can get. I had a brief photo shoot in the rain.
Even though it's still winter and not a lot of the flowers are in bloom, Kew Gardens is really lovely. Our first stop was the Palm House. That's it in the background there. All the tropical plants are in the palm house, including the best plants ever discovered:
the coffee plants.
Mom, I apologize, I didn't stop and read every sign, so I don't know the names of all the plants I saw, but I took enough pictures that if you really wanted to, you could look them up.
The pictures are a little blurry because it was really hot and humid in there. I know, obviously because that's where they keep the tropical plants. After a few minutes in there I was ready to move on.
The gardens are a really nice place to slow down and wander around for as long as you want, even if it's raining. It was so quiet and peaceful; a really nice change of pace from being in the city. Like I said, not a whole lot was in bloom, but there were tons of rhododendrons.
One of my favorite spots was the Japanese Landscape. It's really zen and quiet and different from anything else in the gardens.
I also saw the most amazing bird I've ever seen. Ashley and I were just walking around (yet again not really knowing where we were), and all of a sudden she spotted a bird. I have never seen anything like it. So I had a photo shoot of him.
And let me tell you, he figured out I was taking pictures and walked up to me and strutted across my path. Even when I put my camera away he stopped and posed, so naturally I had to take my camera out and take a picture again. What a showoff.
